Firecrackers, big or small,
Delight and enthrall
Children, adults, one and all
One in the backyard
Thousands in the park
In wonder, eyes lit up
But bundled together
From China to Kerala
They lose their wonder
Firecrackers - surely never
Meant to be wrapped forever
Et tu?
Wrapped forever? Never! Wonderful writing!
ReplyDeleteYou nailed this one. 'surely never meant to be wrapped forever' sums it up so well.
ReplyDeletefirst time reader. great poem. i LOVE the look of your blog. It feels "homey" and welcoming! :) Lisa
ReplyDeleteWell done Nino. I should not expect a fircracker to remain wrapped forever. They simply must be set ablaze!!
ReplyDeleteLet 'em blow! I like the upbeat feel your Magpie evokes. Well done.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. As kids we unwound the bunles so each could be lit separately, multiplying the pleasure.
ReplyDeleteYes, I say light them!!
ReplyDeleteCertainly fired off a nice magpie!

ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel wrapped up in the mundane. But must I go out in a blaze of glory, or can I show my light and stay a while?

ReplyDeleteI used to love the firework wrappings when I was a kid, especially the ones dressed up like Chinese pagodas.
ReplyDeleteFor sure. What good is an unspoken "BANG"?
ReplyDeleteDear Patti, Terresa,Tumblewords, Brian, T, Lanie, Kathew and dear, dear bkm
ReplyDeleteYes, as Patti so correctly said, - what good is an unspoken BANG?
I'm with Brian...lite them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suz!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are aware of Diwali, a festival of lights celebrated in India! It is one of my favorite festivals for it involves fire crackers!! I just love standing on the terrace watching the colors paint the night sky..! You got a wonderful poem here..!! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteDear Ilakya,
ReplyDeleteOf course - Divali is celebrated here in Malaysia [together with Chinese new Year and Aidil Fitr] and we get to enjoy the nightlights and the performances. And fireworks - but no firecrackers...
