Travel far into space and time
What did H G Wells find
Man lost his mind
His reason, his cunning
All that were left - machines
Silently humming
In houses of light.

After 30 years, I re-read H G Wells The Time Machine ( a class reader in school)
and found it as riveting and fascinating as the first time I had read it.
I liked this much. The Wells reference and the worth of his accomplishments compared to his end. The last stanza was a powerful commentary. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you Henry. I love H G Wells.
Deleteooooh very well done! love how you found a connection to Wells here...made me smile. great take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteI just re-read The Time Machine today - so it was natural my mind was full of the far away world in the future.
Deletefascinating...really cool rhythm to the piece...love the wells ref....in the end is it just machines...maybe but i wonder if they will last long after their creators....
ReplyDeleteThe world created by Wells was very bleak. It was great storytelling but I preferred the world of Dune.
DeleteLove the reference to WElls - nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Loved your photos too.
DeleteHaunting - "machines silently running in houses of light". Wonderful! The planet, After Man? Yoiks!
ReplyDeleteWell, Sherry - you and I agree that we have to take better care of this planet, don't we?
DeleteLove your take on the prompt and H G Wells. Crisp, succinct and much enjoyed
ReplyDeleteThank you Beth. Glad you liked it!
Deletecool mention of wells time machine...ha..really like what you did with this..just machines left in the end...made me also think of wells war of the world when the machines were conquered by bacteria..great write
ReplyDeleteH G Wells was really cool, wasn't he? Jules Verne and believe it or not Herge too were my favorites. Today I share Tin Tin with my daughters.
DeleteBeautiful poem that reminds us of H.G Wells, one of the pioneers of English science fiction. Good stories remain good stories even though they're old.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Zunnur. I suppose that is a test for true classics.
ReplyDeleteDid you read Tin Tin?
