To me, the final three lines could apply to the narrator or the person about whom the narrator is speaking. Or both, I guess. I enjoy that layering, well done.
I guess, Carrie, we all have gone through these passages of life. Perhaps we all go through the same trials, emotions and interaction with different degrees, a test how to see we react? We choose? We live?
