Love has its story to tell, its own will
Embrace thy love or shun it if you will
Love at times, is all that is left inside
When all else is gone except your true will
Love can lift you so high above the clouds
And yet crush you by those with untrue will
Grace all-giving, is the essence of love
Often confused with either virtue, will
Love also burns, simmers and at times, yearns
For release, and test with great undue will
Love can break you, makes you forget reason
Become undone, as passions unglue will
Love - so romantic in ancient legends
Yet the storyteller survives through will
L'amour peut vous casser, vous fait oublier la raison
Comme passion briser votre volonté et résistance
L'amour peut vous casser, vous fait oublier la raison
Comme passion briser votre volonté et résistance

I love the ghazal, but find them very difficult to write. Practice is the only way I can get better at this! For dVersepoets.
ha. i like that last line...love is....its one of those things hard to define...love gives life & sometimes inadvertantly hurts, maybe in its absence...you work the form well ninot
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha …I claim the title for myself for I am compelled to be a storyteller beyond my own will, Brian!
DeleteReally like this, Ninot. Love CAN either make a person or break a person....and oftentimes take away a person's ability to reason! Wise words here. And yes, the story teller survives!
ReplyDeleteLove is beyond reason, Mary?
Deletenino, a ghazal is one of my favourite forms that I love to read, as I do not write them. Too difficult. You have written this with beauty and grace on the most delicate of subjects--love.
ReplyDeletePamela
Thank you Pamela. Everytime I see your name, I automatically think of Mexico…glad you liked it, dear.
DeleteElegant ghazal - hitting all the elements - even "hynotizing" - especially loved the last couplet in French keeping the "will" word even then. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteGay, I am so touched you enjoyed the French couplet too!
DeleteEmotionally intense and well done.
ReplyDeleteMadeleine Begun Kane
Thank you Madeleine! I enjoyed my visit over, to fun and wit! Keep smiling Madeleine...
Deletebeautiful piece - love it muchly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Gavin...

Ninot Ma'am,
It can just bid good-bye or sometimes not at all. True in many instances! Brilliant!
(the author's name is usually embedded at the end in the ghazal, 'storyteller' takes its place?)
Hank
Err, yes. *Painfully shy about it but I begin to believe it when I hear people calling me storyteller, folklorist, Hikayat Lady etc nowadays...By the way Sir Hank, I hope you will listen in to me telling HIKAYAT tonight on BERNAMA Radio24 FM 93.9. it will be a daily feature at 10.15pm on weekdays only. Do let me know how I can improve the radio snack - it's about 8 minutes or so.
DeleteWonderful ghazal, adhering to stricture, down to the reference to the poet in the final line! With all the requirements and repeated refrains, these are so difficult to do, especially when you want the language and flow to be natural... but you do pull it off here. Well done!
