We hide, we run, we turn away
from the sun, warmth fades
into the twilight and the masquerade
comes alive
In the summer day
we slowly wait for sunset
and the mask comes on
Suddenly, revelry and laughter
fills the air, who goes there
but another couple holding hands
excitement, passion
comes alive
A touch, a kiss
behind masked eyes, delight more
than senses can bear
But the clock strikes twelve
the masquerade ends and the thrill
ends too and they are trapped
in a room, reluctant lovers
once the mask comes off...

An interesting twist on this poem - the anticipation, then the unexpected reluctance when the masks come off. Well done, Ninot.
ReplyDeleteUnmasking of excitement, Sherry - the words that gave birth to this poem!
ReplyDeleteLoves,
Ninot
The masquerades are unmasked to reveal the pretenses from where they hide. This is true of life's happenings too! Great write Ninot Ma'am!
ReplyDeleteHank
Yes, pretenses would not cut the grade beyond masks. Thank you Sir Hank. You are too kind...
Deletereluctant lovers once the masks come off...really nice close on this ninot...its a whole differnt ball game when that happens...
ReplyDeleteOh yes Brian. How does one handle the awkward silence? I don't know really. For me, passion equalled love. And love led me to vows and a ring!
DeleteI love the way their masquerade ends: abrupt, but inevitable.
ReplyDeleteI interpreted is as a metaphor for an affair that's hidden just under the surface and exciting, but never quite enough to be called a relationship.
I love your interpretation - it fits right in, Marita. Cheers!
Deletewe all are more than one person, and we hide behind a mask when we act different ways

verification makes it really hard to comment. you'd get more comments if you turned it off. i had to do this several times to get it to work.
Ok, I will have to learn how to turn this off. Did not even realise there was verification. Thanks!
