Beneath the lake I wait
While the world turns
And centuries march on
Once I defied a great wizard
Refusing to be his bride
For his eyes were old and cruel
Instead I fell in love
With a dragon who seduced me
And my sensibilities
And my punishment
A thousand years
Of daily drowning
I endure, oh how I endure.

An excellent take, and loved the hints to Arthurian legend.
ReplyDeleteAs always.. I am amazed at the depth of you take..
ReplyDeleteThanks for your fairy tale! ♥
ReplyDeleteAh yes, our sensibilities :) You have a voice for children's lit, my friend.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, this is wonderful, Ninot! In Kelowna, when I was a kid, we had a water regatta every summer, and crowned a Lady of the Lake from among the local beauties. Years later, when I was raising my kids there, my elderly neighbor, who could barely hobble around, told me she had once been lady of the lake.......which, at the time, I found astounding. Now that I am older, I see how she was looking back at the high spots of her youth. I wish now that I had sat down and had her tell me her story.
ReplyDeleteA myth with depth and mystery .. lovely.
ReplyDeleteWonderful tale!
ReplyDeleteDear Anthony,
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you are here. And yes, I love the legends (I do not know how many times I have said that...but I do with a passion)
Dear Ayoh Wang,
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Helen, Jinsky and Tess,
Slowly I am coming out of this dry period.
Dear Arian,
ReplyDeleteMy publishers and I are at disagreement. They feel the language is for young adults. I feel children should be able to handle the full length Sleeping Beauty - and more.
Oh Sherry,
ReplyDeleteYou shared that moment with her. That's what counts. Do have a wonderful day...
