The Lighthouse

“There are times when the ocean is not the ocean - not blue, not even water, but some violent explosion of energy and danger: ferocity on a scale only gods can summon. It hurls itself at the island, sending spray right over the top of the lighthouse, biting pieces off the cliff. And the sound is a roaring of a beast whose anger knows no limits. Those are the nights the light is needed most.”
― M. L. Stedman - The Light Between Oceans

Poetry escapes me
And my world is a desert
I long for the island,

where it rains words and flights of fancy

The painting is a gift , a work of art by dear Sir Hanks who writes ferociously. Today, like the lighthouse within its stern and stark frame, it stared at me accusingly. "Write Ninot, write whatever comes to mind." But my mind is a desert that refuses to obey my ever eager fingers, my exhausted poet self. I am chasing dreams, and spinning stories. Instead, I found the words of M L Stedman, which does the painting justice.

I am lost in the real world. And my true Eden lies in wait.

Perspective

We are so tiny, yet debate
As if the colour of the rainbow
Would change if we willed it so

Since childhood, we are taught fairplay
And to treat one another as our equal
Yet we still strive to be individuals

We have sheltered under the same
blue sky, looked out to the horizon
And gaze at the silvery moon

Throughout centuries, earth spins endlessly
And if she wobbles or shakes ever
so slightly, we give in to phenomenal fear

We are so tiny, yet debate
As if the colour of the rainbow
Would change if we willed it so

A letter. Blood rushes to my head.

Crimson skies
As red as blood
Smells like rust
_____

The letter sits
on the window sill, untouched
Harbinger of bad blood
______

with only one look
Blood rushes to my head -
Summer is over

An experiment in storytelling

The storyteller Part II

The moon is high in the sky this moment
I have all that I wish in this moment

The lingering scent of  perfume in the air
My resolve to go vanished this moment

As you catch my widened eyes and parted lips
Time and place is banished, this moment

Deep sighs intermingle with passion
The story undiminished this moment

A tear escapes at the end of the tale
Caught by forlorn and anguish this moment

My listener sits so still, enraptured
The storyteller shall cherish this moment
