we danced around
the teacup rim
for the last time
and
held onto our kiss
until stars appeared
on the edge
of time
covered my lips
over your goodbye
so bittersweet
I so
crave sweet sorrows
like this shall last
a lifetime
***
J'ai couvert
mes lèvres sur votre
au revoir très tendre
baiser doux, plus triste, tres triste
***
J'ai couvert
mes lèvres sur votre
au revoir très tendre
baiser doux, plus triste, tres triste

and the Magpietales
The moment of unforgettable love is here!
Sorrowful parting causes love to intensify thus sweetness is hidden somewhere deep, and love will be even stronger tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOh, but love that has found its end, it is its poignancy that will grow stronger and stronger come tomorrow.
Delete...bittersweet but oh a moment so short that is like forever... if only we can loan from moon a few more time to cherish the night and hold each other for one last chance... excellent offering Ninot, ma'am...
ReplyDelete..smiles...
Thank you Kelvin, I loved your sonnet - and might be inspired to try one soon...
Deletedancing around the teacup rim is a beautiful image...a bittersweet moment for sure...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful word - bittersweet, don't you think Claudia? So apt for sweet sorrows such as this. I wouldn't be surprised if Shakespeare himself came up with the word...
DeleteBittersweet but beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anthony - this is not really letting go, isn't it. Just making sure we remain unforgettable.
Deletenice....you set the scene really well...i like the dancing around the teacup rim...and covering the goodbye with your lips....those goodbyes carry a bit of a sting...
ReplyDeleteYes, Brian...Who cares about happy ever after - those goodbyes bring down the house in theaters.
ReplyDeleteDo you write in French too? Very sweet, sad and tender, yet I thought I could also detect a current of self-indulgence. After all, we all like to feel that our sadness is like no one else's.
ReplyDeleteOh how true, Marina Sofia. We are irrepressible in loving our sorrows...
DeleteYes, I do write, or rather, dabble in french, hoping that I do not lose it altogether.
I am enchanted by the image of dancing around the teacup rim. One could easily lose one's balance there...
ReplyDeleteToothless Fadista
Oh yes, Mark - one must be careful, otherwise you could get scalded so easily...
DeleteA lovely sweet sorrow ~ I also like that you wrote the French verse as it does make it look poignant ~
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace - I read it differently in French for the sadness is more profound I feel - tres triste.

C'est vrai Loredana! So glad you dropped by. Loved that love machine...
ReplyDelete..and then the ship sailed and I was left standing at the end of the dock. My parents took my three little ones to the car and waited..I wanted to hang onto that ship until I couldn't see it any more. I was 9 months pregnant with our 4th child. Our picture was in the San Diego Tribune with the title "Daddy hasn't seen him"... That is what your lovely poetry meant to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the memories. That was 52 years ago.
Mona
Dear Mona,
ReplyDeleteI read glimpses into your life earlier and knew there were stories to such heartfelt writing. I am glad my little poem meant something to you...WHat a lifetime...
Ninot Ma'am,
ReplyDeleteParting for the last time is such a bittersweet thing. One would have wished to cling on to make it last forever. The tears would only gush out when both were parted and out of sight. Been through it! One would laugh over it now, the folly of youth!
