Sweet sorrows

we danced around
the teacup rim
for the last time

and

held onto our kiss
until stars appeared
on the edge

of time

covered my lips
over your goodbye
so bittersweet

I so

crave sweet sorrows
like this shall last
a lifetime

***

J'ai couvert
mes lèvres sur votre
au revoir très tendre

baiser doux, plus triste, tres triste

  1. Sorrowful parting causes love to intensify thus sweetness is hidden somewhere deep, and love will be even stronger tomorrow.

    1. What a beautiful word - bittersweet, don't you think Claudia? So apt for sweet sorrows such as this. I wouldn't be surprised if Shakespeare himself came up with the word...

  7. Do you write in French too? Very sweet, sad and tender, yet I thought I could also detect a current of self-indulgence. After all, we all like to feel that our sadness is like no one else's.

  28. ..and then the ship sailed and I was left standing at the end of the dock. My parents took my three little ones to the car and waited..I wanted to hang onto that ship until I couldn't see it any more. I was 9 months pregnant with our 4th child. Our picture was in the San Diego Tribune with the title "Daddy hasn't seen him"... That is what your lovely poetry meant to me.
Thank you for the memories. That was 52 years ago.

  30. Ninot Ma'am,
Parting for the last time is such a bittersweet thing. One would have wished to cling on to make it last forever. The tears would only gush out when both were parted and out of sight. Been through it! One would laugh over it now, the folly of youth!
